Tarangire National Park, located in northern Tanzania, is renowned for its stunning landscapes and rich biodiversity. Spanning approximately 2,850 square kilometres, the park features vast savannas, acacia woodlands, and the iconic Tarangire River, which attracts a plethora of wildlife, especially during the dry season. The park is named after the river that flows through it, providing a vital water source in an otherwise arid region. Tarangire is particularly famous for its large elephant herds, which can often be seen congregating near the river.

Tarangire is often less crowded than other parks in the area, making it a serene escape for wildlife enthusiasts. Its unique ecosystem supports a diverse array of flora and fauna, making it a fantastic destination for both photographers and nature lovers.

Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara National Park well known for the tree climbing lions, the soda ash lake that attracts thousands and pink flamingos, one of Tanzania’s biggest elephant population and breathtaking scenery! 

Located in the northern part of Tanzania, Lake Manyara National Park is 126 kilometers west of Arusha Town. The park covers an area of 330 sq km / 125 sq mile including a lake surface of 230 sq km / 89 sq miles

Lake Manyara has a big number of elephants, so many giraffes; zebras, wildebeests, impalas, waterbucks, and warthogs, the less-known shy Kik’s dik dik as well as the Klipspringer that dwell along the ramps of the escarpment. Leopards are hosted within the scattered forests and escarpment, while the healthy population of lions that are widely known for their unique tree climbing capability. In addition, you will not fail to notice the very large number of baboons in this park which can live in sizeable troops of up to 200 members.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

The Best Time to Visit Tarangire National Park is during the dry season, from June to October. During this time, the Tarangire River becomes the primary water source for animals, drawing large herds of elephants, zebras, and wildebeests, making wildlife sightings more frequent and easier. The weather is dry and warm, perfect for game drives and outdoor activities.

For birdwatchers, the wet season, from November to April, offers excellent opportunities to see migratory birds, although some areas of the park may become difficult to access due to rain. However, Tarangire is an exceptional destination year-round for safari enthusiasts.
